Operation
Carrying out IAS control and biodiversity management activities
This operation is aimed at managing invasive species in priority areas of the Taputapuatea UNESCO site and restoring the protected landscape. It involves managing the site’s environment, laying the groundwork for long-term environmental monitoring and strengthening the native and endemic flora.
2 actions
In order to implement environmental management activities in the priority areas, the action plan, priority-area boundaries and summary map will need to be updated. Further environmental reconnaissance trips, training, grassroots awareness campaigns and communication material production will back up efforts in the phase preceding the site management work.
Priority areas will be managed with local community and association support. A nursery will be set up to supply the trees needed for restoring the site. Invasive species control will be carried out in the priority areas. Environmental and land-flora monitoring will be set up to ensure the achievements remain sustainable.
