Prior to eradicating rats from Wallis & Futuna’s offshore islands, a consultation and public information phase will be held on the upcoming action and the required measures. Environmental assessment studies will then need to be carried out to draw up an operational eradication plan. After eradication, environmental monitoring will be carried out to speedily identify any remaining or reintroduced rats.
Prior to eradicating rats from uninhabited and small islands in the Marquesas Group, a consultation and public information phase will be held on the upcoming action and the required measures. Environmental assessment studies will then need to be carried out to draw up an operational eradication plan. After eradication, environmental monitoring will be carried out to speedily identify any remaining or reintroduced rats. This action item will require an additional EUR 2.5 million in funding to supplement French Polynesia’s contribution through PROTEGE. NGOs and SPREP are currently seeking the funds.
