Operation
Conducting technical and economic studies on adding value to edible fisheries products
The operation will consist of carrying out market surveys and technical and economic feasibility studies on seafood species, techniques et products so as to ultimately develop local value-adding or export sectors in each OCT.
This operation will make it possible to identify niche sectors/activities that generate new sources of growth. It will seek to improve the OCTs’ territorial and regional competitiveness while providing healthy food from sustainable use of resources.
These studies will be based on work done in the region and can be carried out between OCTs so as to achieve economies of scale.
2 actions
- Technical and economic feasibility study
- Market survey (local and/or export). Depending on the target species/market, the studies will be shared at the regional level
- Comparisons and evaluations of the value of certification and introducing product production and quality standards. These studies can be done regionally
- Studies to identify new species/market pairs (harvest/market potential for new species or consumable products; profitability/economic optimum for these new sectors)
- Testing sectors and assessing their territorial impact
- Feasibility studies of systems that promote work across several areas (fisheries-aquaculture-agriculture)
- Technical and economic studies on species/market pairs (assess the market/harvest potential for new species or consumable products (fish fillets, smoked or salted fish, terrine, seaweed, etc.) ; profitability/economic optimum for these new sectors including processing that could be done in the islands so as to lengthen the value chain. Studies could also be done on the possibility of creating production units on certain islands to process the catches of neighbouring islands
- Technical-economic studies on processing, packaging and marketing giant clam meat from the Tuamotu Islands based on the work done in Asia and Europe on marinated or smoked bivalves. The exact outlines of this action should be determined by the DRM in 2019 so as to begin the action in 2020
- Market studies (local and/or export)
