Operation
Enhancing biodiversity on agricultural lands
This operation is designed to support the development of viable agro-ecological systems based on access to healthy plant materials in order to maintain and strengthen biodiversity enhancement. So this operation will make it possible to inventory, assess, produce and disseminate healthy plant material to limit the spread of biological pests. In addition, developing agro-ecological infrastructures (service plants: refuge plants for auxiliaries, green fertilisers, nectar plants) helps limit the use of inputs (pesticides, fertiliser), maintain biodiversity and, in that way, improve farm production’s quantity and quality. The regional component will make it possible to identify the different OCTs’ biosecurity requirements and provide a structure for seed bank and nursery workers.
6 actions
• List locally grown species and varieties of interest for agro-ecology and organic farming purposes
• Import plant material required to develop organic agriculture so it can be propagated locally
• Develop, disseminate technical specifications for seed and seedling production and help create a local sector for organic farmers’ needs
• Inventory locally adapted plants that can be used in agroforestry
• Collect and disseminate technical and economic references on existing agroforestry systems
• Support the production of plans to set up agroforestry systems
• Implement operational solutions for organic farmers in view to the end of the POETCom exemption on using conventional seeds treated with contact products up through 2020
• Assess the various green fertilisers, cover plants and auxiliary refuge species
• Produce and share seeds with farmers
• Technical transfer via, in particular, a guide on crop protection and using such plants
