Operation
Strengthening POS applicability and governance
The goal of this operation is to have operational reading guides to improve the quality of certification with the POS. Through a collaborative and shared methodology. These guides will be submitted to the PoetCom/SPC Standards and Certification Committee for approval and then distributed to PoetCom/SPC members (including inspection agencies).
The operation is also supposed to help strengthen communication and exchanges between the POS management body and Standard users, e.g. producers, processors, certifying agencies, PGS and government authorities. This will come out, most particularly, by a full review of POS governance shared by the region’s countries and territories via SPC.
2 actions
This action is designed to
• identify priority sectors based on the needs of organic producers or those who want to be certified in the three OCTs. After a series of consultations, the following sectors have been pre-identified: poultry farming (both meat and eggs), agrofood processing, plant production and cattle farming. These choices have to be confirmed with representative stakeholders from the OCTs.
• Produce reading guides in a collaborative and shared manner within each territory and between the three territories.
The goal of this action is to conduct an audit of POS governance, particularly to clarify procedures for amending the benchmarks. This will come about by identifying counterparts and procedures to remove potential differences in interpreting the Standard.
