Operation
Waste and rainwater treatment
This operation aims to:
- studying and scheduling the necessary upgrades to the sanitation department and its infrastructure
- supply departments with the equipment required to manage non-community sewerage facilities
3 actions
This action item aims to help Wallis & Futuna devise a blueprint for its sanitation department upgrade operations. The master plan will include household sewerage, farm waste from pig breeding and storm water.
It will also be possible to carry out some of the priority action items in this blueprint.
New Caledonia’s Loyalty Island Province plans to set up a residual sludge collection and leaching system for non-community sewerage systems. The action item will be carried out in two stages, namely:
- design studies; and
- consultation and construction
Wallis & Futuna Territory services non-community sewerage facilities without appropriate management systems. It plans to improve the service with PROTEGE support based on the following methodology:
- exhaustively mapping non-community sewerage facilities following on from work begun under INTEGRE
- developing a specialist application for managing and monitoring non-community sewerage systems and procuring field tablets for on-site data entry
-helping the departments operate the system in Year 1; and
- setting up financial incentives for the more challenging cases identified.
This action item could have a regional aspect, if the specialist application is developed to be usable in other territories.
