A Food Village, an Agricultural Fair, and a vibrant quiz in the Pacific

In New Caledonia, as part of the Local Food Days organized by Pacific Food Lab throughout October, the first-ever "food ball" took place at the food trucks in Nouméa on September 30, followed by the Food Village at Baie de la Moselle on October 1. These events welcomed many diners to celebrate and savor the local culinary culture, offering a burst of colors, flavors, and information to highlight the richness of the local food.

On this occasion, local restaurants and partners, both associative and institutional, informed people of all ages about good local products and their initiatives related to local food.

Thanks to a partnership with the Chamber of Agriculture and Fisheries of New Caledonia, which presented its actions on the subject, a quiz on food and food systems was offered to numerous visitors as part of the PROTEGE project (financed by the European Union and implemented by the Pacific Community).

At the same time in French Polynesia, the 37th edition of the Agricultural Fair opened on September 28 at Outumaoro in Punaauia, showcasing the expertise of local producers and artisans. This year's theme was "A fa'ahotu 'aruru ana'e - Cultivating subsistence food," aiming to raise awareness about the importance of consuming fresh and local products.

The Department of Agriculture (DAG) offered various demonstrations, including one on green manure, a cover plant intended to be incorporated into the soil at the end of the cycle to improve soil fertility (PROTEGE initiative).

Thanks to partnerships with DAG and the Department of Marine Resources (DRM), which also had an awareness and information booth on its many activities, the same quiz was offered to the people of French Polynesia.

From New Caledonia to French Polynesia, the food transition is underway in the Pacific...
