The training in organic agriculture is bearing fruits and delivering its first vegetables at the central food production unit

A great achievement in French Polynesia !

The first deliveries of vegetables from the training in organic agriculture arrived at the central kitchen in Mataiea. Salads, round and long zucchinis, eggplants, and cucumbers… More than twenty kilos of vegetables have been delivered through the organization JB’s Garden, from the farmer Jean-Baptise TAVANAE. The latter has cleverly chosen some varieties for their resistance over time. A significant parameter for the central kitchen.

This delivery enters in the PROTEGE project’s framework, funded by the European Union, and implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC). It stands for an important step in the development of organic farming and the upcycling of organic waste in school catering.

A call for proposals has been launched in 2021 through PROTEGE. Teva I Uta municipality applied and has been selected by the jury, composed by the Polynesian Agriculture Services and the Pacific Community. Launched in January 2022, the action led by the municipality would allow to train a dozen of volunteers, who will have a 5-months training on a municipal plot.
