Raising climate ambition and actions for agriculture and food systems - Boosting Koronivia

3 November, 12:30 -14:00 GMT

Register for the virtual session

The UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP26) will take place from 31 October to 13 November.

Join us for this hybrid event, either in person at the WWF Pavilion in the Blue Zone at COP26, or online via the registration link below.

This event will focus on the ongoing and future work of the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA), which was set up at COP23 in 2017 to address the importance of transforming agriculture and food systems and help mainstream these issues in the UNFCCC process. The event will showcase concrete examples from member states and the importance of actions on the ground, and will reflect on further actions needed to implement food systems approaches in the KJWA process. We will also hear from young people on challenges and opportunities of the Koronivia process. The discussion will be of particular interest to negotiators in the KJWA community, state and non-state actors and all other ambitious stakeholders involved in climate and agriculture.

The event is hosted by WWF, FAO, Biovision, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Alliance of Bioversity International and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CGIAR).

Despite the multiple proven benefits that improved soil health provides, for food security, carbon sequestration and climate resilience, significant challenged remain in advancing action on the ground. This event will highlight the perspectives of different actors on soil health, how they are taking action to contribute, and the impacts that their soil-focused work is having for productivity, climate, nature and people. It will also highlight some of the key gaps and challenged that need to be overcome, and showcase a burgeoning imitative borne out of the UN Food Systems Summit process: the Coalition of Action for Soil Health (CA4SH), that will bring actors together to mobilize investment and strengthen the enabling environment for soil health to help simultaneously meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, Agenda 2030 and Land Degradation Neutrality targets. The event is co-hosted by CIFOR-ICRAF, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and Drought, WBCSD, WWF and and the Alliance of Bioversity International and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CGIAR).

Speakers will include Ministers of Agriculture alongside Joao Campari (Global Food Lead, WWF), Miriam Medel (Chief External Relations, UNCCD), Dr. Rattan Lal (World Food Prize winner 2020), Diane Holdorf (Managing Director, Food & Nature, WBCSD), Dr. Leigh Winowiecki (CIFOR-ICRAF), Manuel Otero (Director General, IICA), Juan Lucas Restrepo (Director General of the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT) and Paul Luu (Executive Secretary, 4 per 1000 Initiative).
