Launch of the 1st Polynesian Water Safety Plan in Rimatara

A delegation of 6 people travelled to Rimatara from 24 to 26 February 2021 to convene the 1st Steering Committee for the elaboration of Rimatara’s Water Safety Plan (WSP).

The Water Safety Plan (WSP) is a management tool for identification of hazards and assessment of the health risks, known or potential, that may affect a drinking water supply system (abstraction, treatment, storage and distribution). It defines the control measures necessary to prevent and reduce these risks.

The PROTEGE programme, in partnership with the French Polynesia Environment Department (Diren), the Centre for Public Hygiene and Health (CHSP) and the Union for the Promotion of Counties (SPC) of French Polynesia, is supporting 5 volunteer counties in the development of their WSP: Hao, Mahina, Paea, Rimatara and Tumara'a.

The first steering committee meeting for the study to draw up the WSP for the county of Rimatara was held on Wednesday 24 February.

Follow this action on the website of the union for the promotion of counties (SPC) here.
