PROTEGE at the Customary Senate in New Caledonia

PROTEGE was honored to be invited by the Economic, Social and Environmental Development Commission of the Customary Senate on 23 June 2021.

In the presence of the President and members, the New Caledonian government and the Department of Regional Cooperation and External Relations, the team presented the project and its progress in New Caledonia.

The spotlight was placed on tangible actions carried out by the project in the territory, such as the network of 13 agroecology demonstration farms, allowing for the transfer of references to the New Caledonian agricultural world; the coastal fisheries observatory to collect and monitor fisheries data on a country-wide scale; watershed protection and rehabilitation operations or actions to manage flooding or health risks; and finally, invasive ungulates control operations.

At the end of the presentation, numerous and very rich discussions took place with the Senators who specified their interest for the 4 components of the project, in particular the actions carried out in support to the Shared Water Policy, which will be the subject of a future hearing.
