Closing of the 4th steering committee PROTEGE

The 4th COPIL of the PROTEGE project, funded by the 11th European Regional Development Fund (EDF), has come to an end in French Polynesia.

To close these two very rich days, the President of French Polynesia, Edouard Fritch, accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Environment, Heremonana Maamaatuaiahutapu, and the Interministerial Delegate for Foreign and International Affairs, Manuel Terai, invited the committee to the Presidency.

New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, the office for the Pacific Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) in Noumea, the European Union Embassy for the Pacific, the Pacific Community and the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (PROE) were also represented.

In the opening speech, President Edouard Fritch recalled that the covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need to question our development models to make them more sustainable, while respecting our environment and our traditional know-how.

By this context, the objectives of the PROTEGE program of "sustainable and resilient development of the OCT economies in the face of climate change, relying on biodiversity and renewable natural resources", remain more relevant than ever.

This Wednesday, May 25, the delegation will visit the island of Raiatea to discover the various actions carried out through PROTEGE.

The conclusions of the Steering Committee will be communicated soon.
