Being a woman and working in the fishing sector

As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign, which calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG) by the Pacific Community, the PROTEGE project is participating in the campaign through a video clip and a quiz on the theme of coastal fishing.

The "One-SPC" event on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the CPS marked the beginning of the annual 16-day campaign, officially starting on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ending on December 10, Human Rights Day.

During this event, a quiz was organized to learn more about gender equality and the elimination of violence against women, with a focus on women in the fishing sector. Nearly 100 people participated.

A video featuring Savelina, a fisheries technician from Wallis and Futuna at the DSA (leader of the PROTEGE project in this territory), highlighted her actions and role as a woman in the project and the fishing sector. It was broadcast during the CPS event and as part of the regional workshop on coastal fishing capitalization of the PROTEGE project (November 20-24, 2023).

Discover this testimony, which, with humility, highlights women, fishing, and Wallis and Futuna.

The quiz and video were funded by the European Union. Their content is the sole responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the European Union.

This clip is the second in the series that highlights the decisive role and commitment of women in the project. PROTEGE Gender equality is a fundamental value of the European Union. The PROTEGE project also has an intervention scheme for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Link to the first clip.
