The Ambassador of the European Union for the Pacific on a visit to Wallis and Futuna.

The territory of Wallis and Futuna had the pleasure of welcoming His Excellency Sujiro Seam, Ambassador of the European Union for the Pacific, from July 4th to July 10th, 2023.

During this visit, the ambassador met with the local authorities and engaged with stakeholders involved in various programs funded by the European Development Funds (EDF). As part of the PROTEGE program, His Excellency had the opportunity to interact with project leaders and beneficiaries during field visits in Wallis and Futuna. These visits provided an opportunity to showcase achievements in different thematic areas and highlight concrete examples of regional cooperation, such as the network of agroecology demonstration farms, the coastal fisheries observatory, and the water education toolkit.

"We would like to express our gratitude to the European Union through Ambassador Seam. The support we have received through the PROTEGE program has allowed us to carry out essential projects for our islands, such as the master plans for drinking water supply, the sanitation plan for potable water, water protection perimeters, and an educational toolkit. We will soon conduct a precise study of the freshwater lens in Wallis and Alofi and establish a water observatory. This support is highly valuable for our territories, and we are proud of what we have accomplished with our local partners, the Territorial Public Works Department and Vai WF," stated Ateliana MAUGATEAU, Deputy Head of the Environmental Department of the Territorial Government.
