4th Steering Committee of the PROTEGE project

The 4th Steering Committee (COPIL) of the Pacific Regional Project on Territories for Sustainable Ecosystem Management (PROTEGE) will be held from Monday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 25 in Tahiti and Raiatea in French Polynesia.

This committee's will bring together, under the aegis of Mr. Edouard FRITCH, President of French Polynesia

  • Mr. Joseph MANAUTE, Member of the Government of New Caledonia, representing the Regional Authorizing Officer,
  • Mr. Marc COUTEL, Secretary General of the Wallis and Futuna Islands, representing the Prefect, Territorial Authorizing Officer (by videoconference from Mata Utu) and Mr. Paino VANAI, representing the President of the Territorial Assembly of the Wallis and Futuna Islands,
  • Mr. Evan DUNN, Head of the Pitcairn Office, representative of the Governor of Pitcairn Islands (by videoconference from Auckland),
  • Mr. Pierre-Henri HELLEPUTTE, Head of the Office for the Pacific Overseas Countries and Territories in Noumea, representative of the European Union Ambassador for the Pacific,
  • Mr. Stuart MINCHIN, Director General of the Pacific Community, Mr. Sefania NAWADRA, Director General of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (by videoconference from Apia).
  • This committee objective is to assess the progress of the actions conducted within PROTEGE and to approve the implementation program until the end of the project in September 2023. The financial and technical reports and the perspectives of each of the 4 components of the project will be presented: agriculture and forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, water and invasive species.

As a reminder, the PROTEGE project aims at building sustainable development and climate-resilient economies in the Pacific Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), by focusing on biodiversity and renewable resources. PROTEGE is funded by the 11th European Regional Development Fund to up to 36 million euros, or 4.3 billion F CFP.

This regional cooperation project is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) for the benefit of New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna and Pitcairn.
