Watershed restoration and protection in Touho, New Caledonia

The Kokingone and Haccinem clan councils, the CAAM and Tipwoto associations as well as the population are mobilizing for the protection of their water.

2600 is the number of trees and seedlings reintroduced in Touho in New Caledonia thanks, in particular, to the action of local associations made up of 90% women.

The PROTEGE project supports Touho actions of reforestation and regulation of invasive species so that watersheds, unique providers of drinking water for populations, are restored and preserved.

These actions are carried out with the financial support of the European Union and the French Office for Biodiversity as well as the technical support of the municipality of Touho, the Northern Province, the IRD in the South Pacific, the International National Forestry Office and the Pacific Community.
