The Conservatory of Natural Spaces of New Caledonia works on wild pigs control

150 cage traps made available to tribes in New Caledonia

The CEN PROTEGE team has received the first design of cage traps that will be made available to the tribes involved in the project.

In total, more than 150 cage traps will be manufactured on the main land and loyalty islands.

Tested for several years at CEN, these traps have proven to be effective in catching wild pigs on the edge of fields, with a double benefit for the protection of forests and farmers' crops.

In this period of yam replanting where fields are particularly vulnerable to pig attacks, the cage trap and snare are two trapping methods that are easy, accessible and inexpensive to set up.

The PROTEGE-CEN team will provide training open to all for the manufacture and installation of the cage trap and snare in the three priority areas of the project. The training will be provided by the PROTEGE-CEN team in November in the tribes, on the three priority areas of the project.
