Nearshore fishing techniques – A manual for community fishers of the Pacific Islands

Discover this manual, produced by the Pacific Community, designed to help Oceanic fishermen improve their chances of success when targeting inshore fish.

Pacific fishing communities need to find new ways of making a living, and this manual aims to meet that growing need.

As reef fisheries come under increasing pressure, the SPC Inshore Fisheries Division team decided to create a toolbox, which includes this manual, detailing almost 20 fishing techniques (trolling, open-water fishing, deep-sea fishing and small pelagic fishing), as well as a series of training videos entitled Fish and Tips.

This toolbox targets the most resilient pelagic species and describes, where appropriate, the fishing gear and equipment that can be found (or easily made) in most of the Pacific Island States and Territories.
