When youth contribute to scientific cooperation between French Polynesia and metropolitan France

The agriculture department of French Polynesia (DAG), the IRD and the Pacific Community encourage young women and men to explore research and science educational paths.

Two interns from the entities carried out a study on plant-pollinator interaction networks in the agrosystems of French Polynesia. It is part of the "Melliferous resources" action of PROTEGE and their supervision was shared between the DAG and the IRD.

They presented the results of the study to the young people of the Bourbonnais agricultural high school in Auvergne (France).

This exchange between Europe and the Pacific enabled to:

  • develop capacity building,
  • strengthen the knowledge of the Pacific territories.

The feedback was very positive. The students mentioned the opportunities for post-baccalaureate studies, the benefits of doing internships outside of metropolitan France and in taking up scientific studies.
