Towards greater availability of organic seeds in New Caledonia

Study restitution of " Seeds and plants in New Caledonia " carried out by PROTEGE, on the importation of organic seeds in New Caledonia.

18 farmers and technical partners met on May 11, 2022 in Farino to attend the restitution of the study "Seeds and plants in New Caledonia" conducted by Biocaledonia and the Chamber of Agriculture and Fisheries of New Caledonia.

The study’s objective is to identify the tools and priorities for action in order to support project leaders and limit the phytosanitary risks of importing organic seeds. The species concerned are local vegetable seeds, vegetable seedlings, potatoes, corn and plant cover. In this study, practices, obstacles and opportunities are also identified in order to establish recommendations to solve the difficulties of supplying organic farmers with organic seeds.

The restitution in front of the solicited actors enabled to confront the results of the stakeholders and to integrate feedbacks to the study and to transmit a report on the subject.
