A shared conference on agroecology in the Pacific region

The event, organized by FAO and SPC on March 8th, 2023, in Fiji as part of the Pacific Week of Agriculture and Forestry (PWAF), addressed agro-ecology and the transition to healthier and more sustainable food systems in the region through the sharing of experiences.

The different presentations focused on:

 The emergence of agroecology in international bodies, particularly within the FAO, an introduction of some practices and methods for evaluating the multidimensional performance of agroecology (via the TAPE tool)

 The strategy undertaken by the Department of Agriculture of French Polynesia in the territory to support the agroecological transition and the development of healthy and sustainable food systems,

 The PROTEGE and POLFN agroecology demonstration farm networks financed respectively by the European Union and the Kiwa Initiative

 The testimony of Mrs. Françoise Henry, organic farmer, president of Bio Fetia (PGS) and member of the PROTEGE Farms network in French Polynesia

 the farm and experiments undertaken by Mrs. Henry, farmer and member of the PROTEGE network in French Polynesia,

 The Coalition for Transforming Food Systems through Agroecology, launched during the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021

The event was an opportunity to share experiences between PROTEGE projects and the POLFN Kiwa Initiative, and other actors in the region as a concrete illustration of cooperation between French and English speaking territories in the Pacific region.
