New PROTEGE agroforestry plots to support the agroecological transition
Training courses on agroforestry for farmers in Maré.
A training course on the design and set up of an agroforestry system took place for 2 days on May 26th and 27th at Reynald Washetine’s, a member of the network of demonstration farms, on the Island of Maré in New Caledonia.
The training was open both to farmers wishing to optimize the management of natural resources and strengthen the resilience of their productions through agroforestry and also to agricultural technicians from the different structures present in the Loyalty Islands. It brought together more than twenty women and men.
Over these 2 days, more than 580 seedlings were planted including fruit trees (avocados, citrus fruits) and intercropping plants to produce biomass to enrich the soil and create suitable conditions for the installation of mycorrhiza.
