Internship offer - Fromulation of rations from local raw materials dedicated to pig breeding

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Wallis and Futuna offers an internship about the elaboration of rations for pig breeding created from local raw materials, through PROTEGE and the Pacific Community.

End-of-course or gap year internship for Engineer/master’s degree (bac+4 or +5) specialized in tropical environment breeding

- based on the Wallis Island,

- hosted by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries,

- 6 months internship over 2022 (adaptable according to the academic calendar),

-Allowance: 665 € per month. Position not housed. Office vehicle for field trips. Computer workstation. Round trip airfare paid,

-Driver's license required,

-Application deadline April 8, 2022.

Missions and activities:

The student will be in charge of the formulation of rations from local raw materials to be tested in several farmers from demonstration farms.

The activities are the following:

-Inventory of local raw materials available or to be easily developed on the territory (protein source), including their nutritional interest in pig farming in connection with similar projects carried out in tropical areas, including the Pacific,

-formulation of rations adapted to the physiological stages of the animals,

-technical support to the local project initiator currently producing a feed based on cassava and coconut silage,

-establishment of a protocol for monitoring breeding growth in order to test the rations developed,

-technical and economic analysis of farm performance according to the type of feed,

-technical and economic analysis of pig feed production unit.
