Green manure, a technical guide to improve soil fertility.

The Agriculture Department (DAG) of French Polynesia publishes two practical guides on green manure and plants that promote beneficial insects. They stem from the results of studies conducted from 2019 to 2023 as part of the PROTEGE program funded by the European Union. About thirty locally available species have been assessed, and the most promising ones have been identified. Their characteristics and technical guidelines have been defined.

Green manure refers to plants specifically cultivated to enhance soil fertility and reduce the need for fertilizers. They also contribute to improving soil structure through their root activity and help in weed control by quickly covering the ground.

Discover all the benefits of green manure, learn how to cultivate them to enrich the soil, as well as how to produce your own seeds. Additionally, explore detailed technical sheets on species of interest available in French Polynesia.
