The agroecology trophies: award ceremony of the 2020-2021 edition
On June 25th, the regional ceremony for the presentation of the agroecology trophies was held at the Lycée agricole Michel Rocard in Pouembout.
The Directorate of the State Service for Agriculture, Forestry and the Environment (DAFE) of New Caledonia organized for the first time in New Caledonia the trophies of agroecology, a national competition of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The operation was supported by partners: Crédit Agricole Mutuel, the Chamber of Agriculture of New Caledonia, Groupama Gan, the South Province, the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Caledonian Agronomic Institute.
This competition, sponsored at the national level by Crédit Agricole, is intended to reward the approach of an exemplary farmer producing agriculture that is economically, environmentally and socially efficient. For this first edition in New Caledonia, two prizes were awarded.
The regional innovation prize, which rewarded the individual approach of a particularly innovative farmer in his agroecological practices, was awarded to the Société Civile Agricole et Pastorale de Gomen (SCAPG), represented by Mr René MARLIER. He will represent New Caledonia at the national jury to be held in early July in metropolitan France, with a reward of €10,000.
As part of this competition, the Pacific Community (SPC), through the PROTEGE program, as well as the Caledonian Agronomic Institute, also rewarded the action of WAIHMENE, a farm in Lifou represented by Mr Baptiste Hnawaja IHAGE, as the most climate resilient project. His award was also presented to him on this occasion.
