Sea cucumbers, a major study conducted in New Caledonia

30 actors trained in the same sampling method

This training day on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 is the starting point of an important study conducted on the assessment of sea cucumber stocks in New Caledonia.

About thirty actors gathered, bringing together:

- fisheries managers in the South, North and Loyalty Islands provinces,

- private operators who will ensure the implementation of the study,

- scientists (IRD, IFREMER, Southern Cross University – Australia).

The objective of this 1st day was to train all the actors in the same technique of sampling sea cucumbers.

This sampling will be calibrated from the end of April to the end of July 2021 and cover different sites in New Caledonia.

The purpose of the Caledonian study is to better understand the state of stocks in order to make recommendations for the sustainable management of this resource.
