Seminar on water management in French Polynesia

Raising awareness and training communal agents on water management was the objective of the seminar organized in Rurutu by the Union for communes’ promotion of French Polynesia (SPC-PF)

As part of the Water Safety Plan (WSP) of French Polynesia, the PROTEGE program, partnered with The Environment Department (DIREN) and the Union for communes’ promotion of French Polynesia to raise awareness and train municipal agents in sustainable water management.

Organised by SPC-FP, the event was held from 23 to 25 May 2022 in Rurutu. It brought together elected officials and municipal agents to consider the infrastructure and operating system of the drinking water supply through workshops.

During the second part of the seminar, an illustrated and magnetised tarpaulin made by PROTEGE was used to better understand the problems related to a water network. The practice is to integrate the notion of pressure in a network by putting elements in the right place representing the strengths of their service, the weaknesses, and their expectations. Animated videos and video clips were also shown, including the PROTEGE clip on the WSP.

The seminar ended positively with Rurutu’s will of benefiting from support to deploy WSP, therefore providing each municipality with an adapted health risk management plan.
