Europe Day celebrated at the Hagen Castle – New Caledonia

On the initiative of the South Province, Europe was celebrated last night in New Caledonia.

The European Union supports the European Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) through many achievements and projects, as Mr. Pierre-Henri Helleputte, Head of the European Union Office for the Pacific and Mrs. Sonia Backès, President of the South Province, recalled during their opening speeches.

PROTEGE program is a notable example through the €36 million in European funding from the 11th European Regional Development Fund (EDF) over the period 2018 - 2023.

PROTEGE aims at building, through regional cooperation, a sustainable and climate-resilient development of the OCT economies, by focusing on biodiversity and renewableresources.

It’s implemented in New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia and Pitcairn. Last night's event, supported by the South Province, was an opportunity to inform the invited guests, including high school classes from New Caledonia, about PROTEGE and its achievements. The Pacific Community, as the implementing agency of the PROTEGE project, thanks the South Province for this invitation.
