Costal fisheries and aquaculture: time to share experiences

40 participants attended the PROTEGE conference on the theme of coastal fisheries and aquaculture organized in the amphitheater of the DGEE this Friday, May 6, 2022, from 9 to 11 am.

One of PROTEGE actions addresses the issue of marine reef resources sustainable management in the Pacific Overseas Countries and Territories.

The regional coastal fisheries and aquaculture PROTEGE coordinator visit to French Polynesia, provided the opportunity to present a conference about PROTEGE operations carried out in New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.

Some of them mirror actions carried out on the Fenua, so the objective is to exchange, share and get inspired.

The presentation covered a range of actions on fisheries, aquaculture and communication:

  • Which tool to manage coastal marine resources? Exemplarity of the fisheries observatory.
  • The stock study on sea cucumbers in New Caledonia
  • Participative management when starting from scratch: awareness and information
  • Oysters and men
  • What if farmed fish ate locally sourced food?
  • Training and information from the couch

All agents of the Marine Resources Department, the Ministry of Culture and Environment, associations and the agricultural vocational school were invited as well as all partners involved in the PROTEGE project in French Polynesia.
